Happy Snow Day Project - Reusable Hand Warmers

We have kids going in and out of the house today, playing in the snow.  I really don't want them using the hand warmers that we bought at the store for skiing so we came up with a solution.

You will need:

A small scrap of flannel material
Scissors
Rice
Gloves (optional)
(Not Shown)
Sewing Machine
Microwave

Check out if your gloves have the little pocket in the top.  It is for hand warmers. Measure how big the size of the pocket.

Fold your fabric in half and cut two squares or rectangles to fit the size that you need.  I like to use decorative scissors to make the edges cute.

You will need four pieces for two hand warmers.

Put the pieces wrong side together and sew three sides up about 1/4 in. from the side.

Make sure you leave one side open.

Fill the warmer with rice.  Leave a little room so it fits on you machine to stitch.

Stitch the end closed.

You now have a reusable hand warmer.  They can go in your gloves or your coat pockets.  Send your kids off to school with a little warmth from home.  These just need to be warmed up for 30-40 seconds in the microwave.

My daughters also like to add a little lavendar oil to the rice, warm these up and put them under their pillows before bed.
