Plarn (Plastic Yarn)

How to make plarn.

You will need:
Plastic grocery bags (Other bags will work-experiment)
Scissors

Lay the grocery bag out flat.

Fold the bag in half three times.

1

2

3

Cut the end and the handles off the bag and discard.

Cut the bag into 1-11/2 in sections.

Open up two sections and over lap the ends.

This is the tricky part.  Fold one section over itself and under the other end of itself.

Pull the two sections tight.

Continue to add more sections.  Make sure that the next sections are connected in the middle so that your plarn sections are even.

When you have connected many sections start rolling your plarn into a ball to use for your projects.

Use this like you would regular yarn for crochet projects.

S'mores Bars

I had to make a treat for a girls camp meeting tonight.  When I think of camping I naturally think of S'mores.  But, since it is supposed to snow tonight and our meeting is indoors I had to come up with an indoor s'mores treat.  I got this idea from pauladeen.com. (Of course I had to modify it :))

To Start with you will need:
3 c. Graham Crackers
3 c. Marshmallows
3 c. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 c. Carmel Bites (optional)
1 c. Brown Sugar
1/2 c. Melted Butter
Pam
(Not Shown)
9x13 Pan
Bowl
Measuring cups
Large spoon

First preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray your 9x13 pan with pam.

Next, cut up the graham crackers into bite sized pieces until you have 3 cups worth.

Place graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate chips, carmel bites, and brown sugar into a large mixing bowl.  Pour melted butter over the top and mix well.

Pour all ingredients into your 9x13 pan.

Cook in the oven for 15 minuets.
Let cool for 30 min. and then cut into bars.

Enjoy, these were supper yummy!!!

T-Shirt Scarf

I was looking for a fun craft to use t-shirts and found a couple of fun ways to turn them into scarves.  This was my favorite.

First you will need:
T-shirt (I used a men's XL but you can use smaller sizes.  The scarf will just be less full)
Paper plate 81/2 inches wide
Scissors
Washable marker
Ruler
(not shown)
Sewing machine or fabric glue

Lay the shirt flat and trace as many circles on it.  Shirts without a logo work best.

Cut out your circles.  You will be cutting two circles out at a time from the front of the shirt and the back.
I also like to keep the bottom of the shirt for making a flower clip (maybe next post)

You are going to be cutting the circles into a spiral.  I start at an edge and cut into the circle until the strip is about 2 inches wide.  I use my ruler so that I can see what 2 inches looks like.  These don't have to be perfect just close.  Continue cutting around until you reach the middle.  Cut all your circles into spirals.

Separate your two circles and lay them end to end using the middle of the circles.

Separate the next set of circles and lay them end on end and them place them on top of  the first separated circles.  Continue this until you have stacked all you circles on top of each other.  You can see that I stagger the way they lay.

I finish the scarf by sewing the pieces together right where they meet in the middle.  If you don't sew you could use fabric glue to put the pieces together.

Enjoy a fashionable fun scarf.

Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Dinner tonight is broccoli cheddar soup.  I looked up quite a few recipes before I finally made up my own from all the different recipes that I tried.

Ingredients:
1/2 c onion or 2 T dried onion
4 c. chopped broccoli
8 c. chicken broth
1 lb. loaf Velveeta
1/2 T. garlic
2/3 c. corn starch
1 c. water
2 c. milk
(Not Pictured)
Large Pot
Blender
Cutting board
Colander
Knife

Add milk to blender

Cut cheese into cubes and add to milk.

Add the water, corn starch, garlic and onions to the blender and mix well.

Wash broccoli and cut into small florets.

Put broth and broccoli into a large pot.  Bring pot to a low boil put lid on. Cook at low for 20 min.

My kids don't like large chunks of broccoli in their soup so I take the broccoli out of the broth when it is cooked and blend it in with the cheese mixture.  Add the cheese mixture to the broth and boil on low until thick.  Serve hot.

Perfect dinner for a cold winter day.
